Stoneware pottery is a beautiful, durable, and functional addition to any home. My handcrafted pottery is made with care, using only nontoxic, food-safe glazes, so you can enjoy it with peace of mind. To ensure your pottery remains in excellent condition for years to come, follow these simple care guidelines.
Washing Your Stoneware
My stoneware pottery is dishwasher safe, but for longevity, I recommend handwashing with warm, soapy water and a soft sponge. Avoid using harsh abrasives, as they may wear down the glaze over time. If you choose to use a dishwasher, place your piece on the top rack to minimize exposure to intense heat and movement.
Keeping the Bottom Clean
Over time, the unglazed bottoms of stoneware pieces may develop slight discoloration from regular use. A simple fix is to lightly sand the bottom with fine-grit sandpaper. This technique is especially effective for white pottery, as it helps remove stains and refresh the surface. After sanding, wipe away any dust with a damp cloth.
Everyday Use & Heat Resistance
Mid-fire stoneware is known for its durability and heat resistance. It can safely be used in microwaves and ovens, but be mindful of thermal shock—never place a cold piece directly into a hot oven. Instead, allow it to warm up gradually. Likewise, avoid placing hot pottery on cold surfaces, as sudden temperature changes can cause cracking.
Storing Your Pottery
To prevent scratches, stack pieces with care, placing a soft cloth or felt between them if needed. Store your pottery in a dry, stable environment to avoid moisture buildup that could affect unglazed portions of the piece.
By following these simple care instructions, your stoneware pottery will continue to bring beauty and functionality into your home for many years. If you have any questions or need specific care advice, feel free to reach out!
